This Week in Social Media – Sept. 15, 2017

Sharmin Kent September 15, 2017

This week’s biggest social media news is all about Facebook. Which is probably just how Facebook likes it.

Multi Product Ads

Facebook is rolling out multi product ads this week, which could give advertisers more bang for their advertising buck. The images in each ad can link to a unique URL, offering shoppers a way to browse several items from desktop or mobile devices. In addition to giving brands more digital real estate in a single space, it’s also well-timed for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

Collection Format Expansion

Facebook’s Collection ad format is getting more room to grow, as reported by Mobile Marketing Magazine. Launched in March, the update allows brands to show digital catalogues to mobile users. Not only is this a handy tool for the holidays, it also allows brands to add store locator information for folks who prefer brick-and-mortar shopping.

Group Video Coming to Facebook

Video chat is relatively popular among Facebook users, and the social network is testing a group chat app called Bonfire–a direct competitor of group chat app Houseparty. AdWeek reports the app allows users to chat with up to eight people, and the App Store description lists features like sharing photos on Facebook and Instagram and using on-screen effects. If you’re ready to try Bonfire now, however, you’re out of luck: it’s only available to “a very small test in Denmark.”
